Mariann Haukaas was born 14th of November 1963 in Oslo Norway.
She was passionate about painting since she was a young girl. In 1983, 19 years old, she went to Denver, USA to work as an au-pair, taking care of children. At the same time, she attended several painting classes.
In 1985 she started to study Commercial art at college in Denver, for 3 years. After finishing her studies, she worked for 8 months as an intern at Channel 4 News, KCNC TV, a part of NBC television, in the art department in Denver. She worked under the stright rules of art, from the art director Tom Mares, who was a brilliant artist. He has also won awards for his art in USA. In 1989 Mariann went back to Norway, after staying 6 years in USA.
The same year she opened a "stand" with handpainted clothes in one of Oslos biggest shoppingcenters, Oslo city, in downtown of Oslo. After working more than 5 years with a "stand", she opened her first little art-shop, in one of Oslos downtowns most busy shoppingcenters, Arkaden. There she had a great business from 1995 to 2010. After 15 years in her artshop, she had to close down because of a very bad concussion. After on year brake, she opened a new and much bigger artshop across the street from the shoppingcenter, in the spring of 2011, where she sold her handpainted glassware and paintings. The big shop became too much to handle for Mariann because of her sickness. In fall of 2012 she had to close down. Nevertheless, Mariann did not give up her artdream. In September 2013, she once again opened a new little art shop in the same area. In 2018 she closed down this place, and instead finished her manuscript. Her lifestory, a book of 522 handwritten pages about her amazing, yet dramatic life. In 2020 she published her book, on her own; One life seven stories walk towards the light. It became her mission in life, to get her difficult life story out in the open. Mariann has also painted for a lot of famous people over the years, from actors, musicians and politicians from both Norway and abroad. Now, in 2021, she lives a quiet life together with her animals in the countryside of Norway, outside Oslo. She continues to paint large paintings, and doing her big passion!
